The Infections (Gore Description TW)
Mutations caused by radioactive soil have given rise to a new form of botanical horror. All plants cultivated near Thorned Tranquility possess a unique ability to transmit various 'infections' to nearby humans. These infections range from minor annoyances, like excessive sneezing, to more severe conditions resembling possession. The symptoms vary depending on the specific plant responsible for the infection.Symptoms that have been previously recorded:
Pollen or spores escaping the nose when sneezing
Moss growing in dark and damp parts of the body (may be painful to remove if attached to the skin)
Green, cloudy tint to the sclera
Thicker, stickier blood (likely mixed with sap)
Vines/tendrils found in veins
Scent of decaying plant matter
There are three tiers to the infections, with increasing severity:
Tier 1: Contamination (need to write out properly)
The lowest and least severe tier.
Carriers of the contagion are likely unaware they are infected.
Sneezing spores, headaches, weakness/fatigue, nausea/vomiting, skin irritation/rashes/burns
Can be cured by burning the affected site (if there is one)
Tier 2: Mutation (need to write out properly)
Loss of bodily functions (unable to stay conscious for a long time, muscle spasms)
Behavioural changes (heightened aggression and extreme agitation)
Prosopagnosia (inability to recognize faces)
Visual symptoms may start to become more obvious.
Tier 3: Possession
The highest and most severe tier.
Individuals experience a complete or partial loss of control over their own brain activity and become possessed by an overwhelming compulsion to spread the infection to others.
Infected individuals are very peaceful or claim they “feel more like themselves than ever”.
Possession manifests as a relentless and unyielding drive to transmit the infection through any means necessary, often resulting in erratic and dangerous behaviour.
The infection can either concentrate in a specific area of the body or spread throughout the entire body. A human is deemed possessed if the infection covers 50% or more of their skin or if a concentrated spot develops its own micro-ecosystem.
As the infection reaches the possession level, it may develop the ability to mask or conceal the generic symptoms from the affected individual. This adaptive behaviour allows the plants to thrive without arousing suspicion, enabling them to exert greater control over the host's body and mind. This makes it imperative to detect any infections before they get to this point.

Background

Yasmine’s current position as Thorned Tranquility’s delivery driver is far from where she imagined her life would be. Previously employed at a more corporate setting, Yasmine was let go after an altercation with a coworker spiraled out of control—an incident born of her difficulty in managing frustration. Her younger sister, Nefeli, stepped in to help her land a job at the flower shop where she works, pulling strings to secure her a second chance.Although she initially despised the idea of working with flowers, the job has grown on Yasmine. Delivering flowers has unexpectedly allowed her brief glimpses into people’s lives during moments of celebration or sorrow. While she still maintains her no-nonsense personality, the beauty and symbolism of the flowers have started to leave a subtle imprint on her hardened outlook.Yasmine spends her free time practicing the piano and tending to her snakes, activities that give her a sense of calm and control. Despite her stoic façade, she dreams of one day finding a career that allows her to meld her creative passions with her methodical nature. For now, she moves forward one delivery at a time, her scowl ever-present but her spirit slowly evolving.

Her typical attire usually consists of comfortable clothes, such as baggy pants and old sneakers.

Yasmine is a highly independent and pragmatic individual who doesn’t tolerate nonsense. She carries an intense demeanor and rarely smiles, maintaining a constant scowl that discourages unnecessary interaction. Beneath her tough exterior, Yasmine is meticulous and efficient, traits that serve her well in her job at Thorned Tranquility. Though she comes across as harsh, Yasmine values family and cares greatly for her younger sister, Nefeli, though she often expresses it through words of criticism.A private person, Yasmine harbors a secret fondness for playing the piano and listening to classical music when she's alone. She uses these interests as an outlet for her emotions and as a form of quiet self-expression.
